GOThere
GOThere is a geolocating app that is designed to help metropolitan transit riders reach their bus on time and get to their destination as quickly as possible.
Overview
GOThere is a geolocation app that connects transit riders with the fastest route to their destination via their metropolitan transit system.
Problem Statement
The Project goal is to design an accessible app that bus riders can use to track and time buses at any stop, while keeping in mind the specific stop at Washington and State, which has the unique problem of servicing riders that take 7 different bus lines.
We need to create an accessible way for riders to track and time busses through an app.
"Riders want to know when the next bus will arrive at each stop. They also want to know how much time they have to get to the bus stop."
Users & Audience
Based on user data, this project was primarily targeted toward individuals in the 18-34 age group who take the bus 1-3 times per week and intend to reach their destination as quickly as possible.
Roles & Responsibilities
For this project, Alyssa Jones was the main researcher and designer. However, the project was completed with the continuous feedback of a small focus group that represented a majority of the individuals surveyed.
Scope & Constraints
One unique constraint of this project was the timeframe for deliverables and my level of experience with the tasks at hand. While the lack of budgetary provisions was not a crippling factor for me, the amount of time that was given to complete this project was particularly eye-opening.
Process
The overall process involved a lot of divergence and convergence. It began with a general brainstorm, moved on to survey, then escalated to sketches, feature finding, revisions, iterations, more revisions, and finally refinement.
Outcomes & Results
The outcome is a simple yet effective app that learns as the user utilizes it. While the MVP focuses on getting the user where they need to be as quickly as possible, more beefy iterations introduce the ability to save routes and set reminders.
